We love Le Fraghe's wines so much that we have two of them on special currently! If you have not checked out their luscious Garganega yet, I highly recommend you do so, but today, let's talk about their Chiaretto di Bardolino, one of Italy's oldest and most prized dry rosés.
Le Fraghe is run with passion and vigor by Matilde Poggi, one of Italy's most respected winemakers. She farms organically and makes traditional wines within the Bardolino DOC, in between Lake Garda and Valpolicella. Chiaretto di Bardolino has been made since ancient Roman times, and it is obtained by gently pressing the dark-skinned varieties of the Veneto.
It yields a dry, fresh, and racy wine that has been thrilling wine lovers for centuries. I've stocked a handful of Chiarettos since we opened in 2010, but I can say with 100% certainty that this is the best version I've ever tried. We've got 84 bottles up for grabs at deal pricing, and this is totally what you want in you glass on these hot summer days.
2024 Le Fraghe Chiaretto di Bardolino 'Rodon'
Why Should You Buy It?
- It's Italy's oldest dry rosato. Pink wines have really taken hold in Italy in the past 20 years, but dry rosé got its start in Bardolino. Rodon is the ancient term for pink or rose. Rosa was also the name of Matilde's mother, so it is also a tribute to her.
- Chiaretto di Bardolino earned earned one of Italy’s first DOC's (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) in 1968. Simply put, this isn't just a casual wine for summer consumption -- it can age and improve with 5 years in bottle.
- A blend of Corvina and Rondinella, the same grapes used to make Amarone, this pale-colored rosato gives off scents and flavors of wild strawberries, redcurrant, dried rose petal, and a hint of spice.
- This is the flagship wine of Le Fraghe! Like I said earlier, Matilde Poggi and her team make other delicious wines, but this is the one they're the most proud of.
I can totally understand why, as this completely refreshing and delicate pink wine is hard to resist. You know how much I love enjoying wine with food, and this would be much enjoyed with an antipasti platter, all sorts of fish and seafood, or a creamy goat cheese. YUM!
