Based in Bardolino, in between Lake Garda and Valpolicella, you will find Le Fraghe, the home estate of Matilde Poggi. She is a force of nature in the Italian wine world, and all of her wines (white, red, and rosé) are marvelous values. Matilde is the president of FIVI, the Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers, and she is one of the country's most respected winemakers.
For good reason too, as her Garganega is sensational, and it shows that Soave is not the only place capable of producing world-class white wines from this native Italian variety. Fermented in tank and aged on the lees for 8 months, it is fleshy, rich, ripe, and delicious. We can't wait for you all to try it!
2024 Le Fraghe Camporengo Garganega -- Why Should You Buy It?
- Garganega is one of Italy's great native white grapes. Growers love it for its moderate acidity and its elegant and highly concentrated aromatic compounds.
- If you've ever had Soave, you've had Garganega. That's where most of the best examples of the grape are made, but this one goes toe-to-toe with the best-of-the-best Soaves.
- This smells like a summer peach! It also possesses aromas and flavors of pineapple, honeydew melon, Meyer lemon, and savory herb. The finish is super juicy but also bright and fresh.
- Le Fraghe has been certified organic since 2009. All grapes are picked by hand, carefully sorted, and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks.
Every bit as good or better than most Soave Classicos, this would be incredible with mussels cooked in white wine with garlic and parsley. It would also pair nicely with a range of meats, from herb-roasted chicken to roasted pork tenderloin with apples.
