Caprili's 2024 Rosso di Montalcino just earned 93 points from Vinous Media, making it their highest-rated Rosso di Montalcino of the vintage. I've sold Caprili for years. I love all of their wines, and I can't say I'm surprised this earned top honors.
Founded in 1965, just a year before Brunello di Montalcino attained DOC status, Caprili has quietly established itself as one of the region's top estates. They've done this by staying true to their original vision, crafting authentic wines from organically farmed Sangiovese Grosso (aka the Brunello clone) grown in the warmer southwestern sector of the appellation.
Their 2024 Rosso di Montalcino is a perfect example of why I've been such a fan of this estate for so long. Fermented in tank and aged in neutral oak, it captures everything I love about wines from this enchanted corner of Tuscany. Aromas of eucalyptus, dark cherry, plum, roasted herbs, and warm spice jump from the glass. On the palate, it's generous and beautifully balanced, offering darker fruit than many Rossos along with enough structure to remind you that you're drinking serious Montalcino.
This is "Baby Brunello" in the truest sense. It delivers the soul of Montalcino without the high price tag or the need to wait. In a vintage this highly regarded, it's an easy wine to recommend.
Get this one in your glass, and I think you'll understand why Vinous rated it so highly.
