Willy Blanc Apremont Tradition

Willy Blanc owns one of the best wine shops in Savoie, which he uses as a forum to advocate for the region’s native grapes and top growers. In his "spare time," he also farms about 5 hectares of Jacquere in the cru of Aprémont, situated below the north face of Mont Granier.

This is one of the most dramatically beautiful parts of France -- near the Swiss and Italian borders in the foothills of the Alps, the white wines produced here are as pure and fresh as a mountain stream. The Jacquere grape, one of the most important in all of Savoie, showcases the mountainous terroir of the region better than any other.

We love this one for its dry, high-toned, and low-alcohol (11.5% to be exact) style, but we also love it because we buy it from Asheville's own Rise Over Run Wines. This local importer brings us some of our favorite Savoie whites, and this one is brand new to the shop.

2023 Willy Blanc Apremont Tradition -- Why Should You Buy It?

  • It smells and tastes like a cool Alpine breeze. That's because it's an Alpine wine, and it showcases bright notes of citrus, Meyer lemon, melon, fresh herb, and white flowers.
  • Jacquere is so much better than it used to be! I remember the first Savoie whites that made it to the US -- they were thin and insipid. This is completely the opposite -- it's packed with flavor and it's far from a "one note" wine.
  • If you love bone dry, lighter-bodied, high-toned whites like Aligoté, Melon, or even Oregon Pinot Gris, you need to give this a try!

The classic dish to pair this with is fondue, especially one made with real Gruyere, but this one also loves to be served alongside all sorts of fish and seafood preparations. It's also the ideal white to enjoy fully chilled while you're watching the sun go down on your porch or at the beach. Ahh....
