Bodegas Frontonio Microcosmico Garnacha 2023

2023 Bodegas Frontonio ‘Microcosmico’ Garnacha

Master of Wine Fernando Mora has crafted a Spanish Grenache that will make your head spin. It certainly did that to me when I had it recently. There’s such transparency of grape and place flowing throughout this ripe, fresh, and aromatic red, and I fully endorse the 93-point-rating that the Wine Advocate gave it.

At just $19.99/bottle best price (no further discounts), this is a no-brainer in VERY high-quality, nuanced, and detailed Garnacha.

Fernando Mora of Bodegas Frontonio

Bodegas Frontonio is the personal project of young gun Fernando Mora. He and his team own 50 hectares of beautiful, old, and organic bush vines in the Valdejalon IGP of Aragon, where it is believed that Grenache originated. These 60+ year-old vines are grown in limestone soils at nearly 2,000 feet in elevation, with cooler, north-facing exposure.

This combination of factors gives us a more vibrant style of Garnacha that is much lower in alcohol (12.5%) and higher in acidity than most of its peers. Additionally, the slower ripening coaxes out prettier, brighter, and zestier aromas and flavors than you typically encounter in Spanish Garnacha.

Fermented with native yeasts and 25% whole clusters in concrete vats, this pours a gorgeous ruby color and smells of pomegranate, blood orange, cherry, white pepper, and savory herb. Medium-bodied, silky, and juicy on the palate, this will get the juices flowing with flavors of freshly picked cherry, strawberry, and cranberry.

Fernando Mora is making some of the most exciting wines in all of Spain, and there’s a good reason his Microcosmico Garnacha has drawn such widespread attention and praise from the likes of Master of Wine Jancis Robinson and Luis Gutierrez of the Wine Advocate.

Enjoy this one with dishes you'd usually have with Pinot Noir -- poultry, pork, salmon, or burgers. It will please your palate, but most importantly, your guests will think you spent $30+....

This is so much wine for $19.99 per bottle, and I recommend it wholeheartedly!
