In the very good 2022 Tuscan vintage, Wine Spectator scored only 20 red wines at 94-95 points. Of those 20 wines, only 1 of them would cost you less than $70. It's also worth noting that today's private offer tied with Antinori's famed Tignanello at 94 points, and Tignanello would set you back at least $150.....

Castello Romitorio doesn't just make highly acclaimed Brunellos, they like to have a bit of fun with their Super Tuscans. Their Romitorio Rosso is a crazy blend of 50/50 Syrah and Petit Verdot from vineyards in Scansano, along the Tuscan coast. This Bordeaux-meets-Rhone red shows rich layers of dark fruit, smoked meat, Mediterranean herbs, cracked pepper, and a hint of juniper berry. Highly aromatic, racy, fresh, and polished, I've never had a blend like this, but it totally works!
Wine Spectator summed it up perfectly: "Blackberry, boysenberry, bacon fat and violet aromas and flavors highlight this supple red. Beautifully integrated, with polished tannins and lively acidity driving the fruit-stained aftertaste. Syrah and Petit Verdot. Best from 2026 through 2038. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. Drink 2026 - 2035. 2,600 cases imported."
It makes total sense why this is such a stellar value: famed Italian oenologist Carlo Ferrini oversees winemaking at Romitorio. He is one of the best winemakers in Tuscany, and he totally knocked it out of the park with this wine.
This displays such polish, depth, and regality at such a fair price, qualifying it as one of the top values among all Super Tuscans produced today.
