Manciat's Saint Veran is hard to come by these days, but we were lucky to score 3 of the 7 cases that made their way to North Carolina this year. One of the hardest working vignerons in the world, Manciat crafts pure Chardonnays from various holdings in the Maconnais. His Saint Veran is his smallest production wine.

From two sites in the communes of Davaye and Prisse, the sandy, limestone soils of these vineyards produces a highly aromatic and sophisticated White Burgundy. Manciat farms with integrated pest management to avoid using chemical sprays, he harvests by hand, and he ferments with whole clusters and native yeasts. He ferments his Saint-Veran in used French oak barriques, ages on the lees with regular batonnage, and bottles with light fining and filtration.

This natural, slow, and traditional approach to farming and winemaking is what I look for in all of the special wines we stock at Table Wine. And this stuff is seriously special! Possessing a classic White Burgundy nose of spiced pear, apple, flint, white flowers, and white truffle, this is full, rich, and highly stylish white wine.
