Domaine Daulny Sancerre 'Le Clos de Chaudenay'Regular price $34.99
We have been longtime fans of Etienne Daulny's "regular" Sancerre, and we still stock it proudly. Etienne's Clos de Chaudenay sits atop a Kimmeridgian ridge that begins in Bué, runs through Mont Damneés and continues through Verdigny. It encompasses some of the finest terroir in Sancerre, and you can definitely taste it.
Due to the vineyard's southern exposure, it draws more heat, and the finished wine is riper and weightier than most Sancerres. After fermentation in stainless steel. Etienne ages most of the wine in stainless steel on the lees, but he ages 20% in older, neutral oak barrels. This oak aging does not make the wine oaky or toasty, but it does add a more seamless texture to the wine.
Still, this is racy and finely detailed Sauvignon Blanc with gorgeous notes of ripe citrus, pear, honeyed apple, and flinty minerality. Crisp, concentrated, and long, we can't recommend this highly enough.
