The weather has turned cooler and we know you’re all craving some fuller bodied, richer, and more concentrated red wines. Stop by to sample an all-star cast of Cabernet Sauvignons from regions near and far. We’ll start with an exceptional value from Italy, then we’ll hit a couple of more medium-priced offerings from Mendoza and Mendocino. 1. 2017 Di Majo Norante Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Terre degli Osci’ (Molise, Italy) –Founded in 1968, the Di Majo estate cultivates more than 200 acres under vine in Molise, along the Adriatic coast of Italy between Puglia and Abruzzo. You won’t believe the price to quality on this 100% estate-grown, 91 point rated Cab. For less than $12/bottle, this delivers classic notes of blackcurrant and hints of vanilla and anise on a medium-bodied, easy-drinking palate. 91 points James Suckling, 89 points Wine Advocate

2. 2016 Marietta Cellars Armé (North Coast, California) – Marietta Cellars is one of our go-to producers when it comes to value-priced, high quality California reds. And their 2016 Armé, a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance in Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot, drinks way above its price point. “Black cherry, sage, lavender, menthol and licorice give the wine striking savory nuance to play off the dark Cabernet Sauvignon fruit. More than anything else, though, the Armé is a superb value in California Cabernet.” – Vinous Media – 93 points

3. 2015 Finca Decero Red Blend “The Owl and the Dust Devil” (Mendoza, Argentina) – We’ll tell you more about the interesting name of this wine at the tasting. But for now, let me just say this is a ton of wine for the money. It’s less than $30, but this could play ball with a lot of “big boy” Napa Cabs and Meritages. A blend of 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Malbec, 19% Petit Verdot, and 10% Tannat, this is one of those full-bodied reds that remains soft and silky on the palate. The nose is fragrant with blackberry and blueberry fruit and fine, well integrated oak spice along with floral and mineral tones. The palate is smooth, rich and elegant with firm acidity to balance the abundant fruit and some fine tannin for grip on the finish.

4. 2017 Venge ‘Silencieux’ Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley, California) – Please note, we’ll only open one bottle of this one. It’s a special treat, and what we believe to be the top value in premium Napa Cabernet. Kirk Venge makes larger-than-life wines, and his 2017 Silencieux Cabernet is no exception. From the hot and dry 2017 vintage, this one offers up classic notes of cassis, dark cherry, mocha and spicy, toasty oak. The last four vintages of this wine have garnered 94-96 point scores. And I guarantee you this will garner similar marks.
