The Wines
1. 2014 Domaine la Manarine Cotes du Rhone Blanc (Southern Rhone, France) – Domaine la Manarine’s white Cotes du Rhone literally smells like sunshine and fruit and spring flowers. A blend of Clairette and Bourbolenc fermented in concrete and stainless steel, only about 200 cases make it into the US each year. Flowing with bright peach, citrus, and honeysuckle notes, this is a great one for porch pounding!
2. 2014 Domaine Sainte Lucie “MIP” Rose (Provence, France) – The “MIP” in the name means “Made in Provence,” and this is the area where some of the world’s greatest roses are produced. This one, a blend of Cinsault, Syrah and Grenache offers up an intoxicating bouquet of floral edged strawberry, watermelon, white peach and Provenacal herbs. Completely dry, but almost creamy in texture, this is a real crowd pleaser!
3. 2012 Eric Texier Cotes du Rhone “Chat Fou” (Southern Rhone, France) – Eric Texier is a force of nature! The former nuclear physicist makes wines in as natural a fashion as possible — organic farming, native yeast fermentations, little or no fining or filtering, and little or no use of new oak or sulfur. His Cotes du Rhone is almost entirely Grenache and it’s about as fresh and invigorating as a red wine can get. Zesty cherry, raspberry, white pepper and refreshing acidity inform the nose and palate of this classic French bistro red.
