The Wines
1. 2014 Domaine de Menard Cotes de Gascogne Blanc (Southwestern France) – The white wines of the Gascogne region are some of the best values in the world, and this one is a prime example. A blend of Colombard and Ugni Blanc, it is very reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc. Fresh, crisp, and packed with tangy/tart apple, citrus, and green herb nuances, it’s hard to drink just one glass.
2. 2012 Fattoria del Cerro Rosso di Montepulciano (Tuscany, Italy) – Antonio Galloni of Vinous Media called this “one of the best Tuscan wines in its price range and a real overachiever.” He’s right! Trust us folks, you will not get a more authentically styled Sangiovese-based red wine than this. Galloni goes on to say the wine offers an “exotic mélange of dark red and black cherries, leather, smoke, incense, spices and smoke.” He’s right again! Don’t miss your chance to sample one of the best Tuscan red wine values in the store. 89 points Vinous Media
3. 2012 Enrique Mendoza Monastrell “La Tremenda” (Alicante, Spain) – Luis Gutierrez of The Wine Advocate says that for “an entry-level this has superb quality and an incredible price tag.” He goes on to suggest purchasing this one by the case. We concur 100%! The wine is based entirely on Monastrelll (aka Mourvedre) and it thrives in the warm climate of Southern Spain. Ripe, full bodied, rich and offering velvety-soft texture, this wine is a real overachiever. 91+ points The Wine Advocate
