Saturday, February 18th from 2-5pm — For fans of French white wines, this is the tasting you don’t want to miss. We’ll pour a trio of truly classy and stylish wines from the Loire and Burgundy, two of France’s top white wine zones.
This is an incredible lineup of very special wines from some of the most distinct and special terroirs of France. With spring just around the corner (hopefully), this is a great opportunity to taste some of our favorite new white wine arrivals. We’ll start with a crispy and crunchy Chardonnay from Muscadet, in France’s Loire Valley. Possessing bright flavors of fresh apple, pear, citrus and mineral, it’s a perennial staff and customer favorite. Up next is a stunning, mineral-laced Sauvignon Blanc from Pouilly Fumé, also in France’s Loire Valley. This one is already flying out of the store and shows the more restrained and complex side of Sauvignon Blanc. To finish, you’ll get to sample a drop dead gorgeous version of White Burgundy from the oft-overlooked village of Montagny. Super stylish, moderately rich, and beautifully balanced, this Premier Cru is shows a whole different side of Chardonnay. Seriously, don’t miss this tasting! Stop by, taste, learn, and save on all of the featured tastings wines.
The Wines
Save big on all of the tasting wines! Mix any 3 of them and save 10%, mix any 6 and save 15%, or mix any 12 and save 20%!
1. 2015 Eric Chevalier Chardonnay (Loire Valley, France) – Eric Chevalier’s family has owned vineyards just south of Nantes in the western part of the Loire Valley for four generations. He was the first to estate bottle wines from their unique terroir that is composed of rocky, quartz-rich soils. The resulting wine possesses flinty minerality along with notions of bright fruit and zero oak. It’s always great, but the warm and sunny 2015 vintage has yielded a wine with a little more richness and intensity.
2. 2015 Régis Minet Pouilly Fumé “Vieilles Vignes” (Loire Valley, France) – This is easily the best Pouilly Fumé we’ve ever stocked! Just across the river from Sancerre, this is 100% Sauvignon Blanc fermented in stainless steel and aged the lees for 6 months. The Kermit Lynch website says, “You couldn’t ask for a cleaner, fresher, flintier, or truer expression of Sauvignon Blanc. Its mouth-watering acidity, depth of flavor, and fleshy texture will have you racing back for more.” We concur 100%!
3. 2015 Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot Montagny 1er Cru (Burgundy, France) – Prior to making his own wines, Jean-Marc Boillot was the winemaker at Olivier Leflaive. In addition, his grandmother was Burgundy’s famed Etienne Sauzet. Talk about a guy with Burgundy running through his veins! The style here is rich, ripe, and highly attractive and his Montagny 1er Cru is one of the great values in super high quality White Burgundy. From the highly esteemed 2015 vintage, this one shows lovely notes of poached pear, spiced apple, carmelized citrus and judicious oak.
