1. 2016 Domaine de la Prébende Beaujolais Rouge (Beaujolais, France) – Eliminate all pre-conceived notions of Beaujolais before you try this one. This old-vine bottling is 100% Gamay from organically-tended vineyards, and it is bottled with minimum sulfites. It exhibits lovely notes of ripe berries and mineral, with finessed tannins and bright acidity.
2. 2015 Chateau Pesquié Cotes du Ventoux “Cuvée des Terasses” (Rhone Valley, France) – This is always one of the great red wine values in the world, and the estate’s 2015 is marvelous. “A smoking good 2015 that readers should snatch up is the 2015 Cotes du Ventoux Cuvee des Terrasses, which is 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah that’s aged in a combination of two- to four-year-old barrels and foudres. Medium to full-bodied, polished, silky and with no hard edges, it has classic Southern Rhone notes.” – Wine Advocate – 92 points
3. 2015 Plantamura Gioia delle Colle Primitivo (Puglia, Italy) – From one of the top estates in Puglia, Mariangela Plantamura farms organically, harvests incredibly low yields, and makes one of the top Primitivos in Italy. Full-bodied, structured, and packed with rich, ripe, and spicy berry fruit, this is a tour-de-force.
