South Asheville's Best Free Wine Tasting

Every Saturday, we host a free wine tasting at our South Asheville store where you get the chance to “try before you buy” four wines from all corners of the globe. We typically feature wines from family owned and operated wineries where the producer is equal parts farmer and winemaker.

In addition, during the summer months, we bring in local, organically grown vegetables from Hominy Valley Organic Farm in Candler. Farmer Tom Kousky grows some of the most beautiful and flavorful vegetables in the region and we sell them for really fair prices. This is the perfect way for you to support small family farms and have a good time doing so.

Gorgeous veggies from Farmer Tom!

The tasting runs from 2:00 to 5:00 and we bring the veggies in and start selling them when we open at 11:00. If you are interested in purchasing any specific produce, please email us at josh@tablewineasheville.com and we will have your produce ready for pick-up when you come by on Saturday. We hope to see you this week! The lineup of wines is below:

1. 2010 Maculan Pinot & Toi (Veneto, Itlay) – This consensus, top value white blends Friulano (aka Toi) with Pinot Grigio and Pinot Bianco. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks and the resulting wine is fresh, zippy and delicious with notes of fresh pears, apples and flowers.

2. 2011 Ernst Loosen “Dr. L” Riesling (Mosel River Valley, Germany) – Year in and year out, this wine is always ranked among the top value Rieslings in the world. It combines sweetness with bracing acidity to create a wine with abundant freshness and nerve. Floral peach, green apple, apricot and mineral all come together to create a lovely white wine to serve with spicy Asian fare or with a good friend and a hot, sunny day. Serve this one nice and cold.

3. 2010 Angeline Pinot Noir (Various Areas, California) – You would be hard pressed to find a better California Pinot value than Angeline. This is the entry level line of wines from Martin Ray and fruit is sourced from premium sites in Sonoma, Santa Barbara and Mendocino Counties. It is a supple and refined wine with pretty red berry fruit, earth, spice and herbal nuances.

4. 2009 Trim Cabernet Sauvignon (North Coast, California) – Sourced from top sites throughout Califonia, the 09 Trim Cabernet is composed of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc. It is rich and velvety, with an enticing mix of blackberry, currant, herb, and hazelnut aromas and flavors, and hints of cedar and toasty vanilla spice on the finish.
