The Wines
Prices range from $8 to $13

1. 2014 Quinta das Arcas Conde Villar Tinto (Alentejo) – This classic table wine is a blend of Aragones, Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet, and Touriga Nacional. Fermented entirely in stainless steel, it is uncomplicated and fruity, but dry and spicy at the same time. With gentle, soft tannins and bright acidity, this makes for a great everyday drinker.

2. 2012 Quinta do Crasto “Flor de Crasto” (Douro Valley) – Quinta do Crasto is one of the Portugal’s top still wine producers, and this is a great introduction to the “house style.” A blend of stainless steel fermented Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional, this wine behaves a bit like a fuller styled Pinot Noir or Beaujolais. With gorgeous fruit purity and a supple and seamless texture, it is a great one to sip with or without food.

3. 2012 Symington Family Altano Tinto (Douro Valley) – The Symington family have been involved in the Douro wine trade since the mid 17th century. These days, they own sizable acreage in the Northern Douro Valley, and that’s where all of the grapes for this wine were sourced from. The hot and dry 2012 vintage resulted in concentrated flavors, and this blend of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca definitely shows the character of the vintage. Like the previous two reds, this was fermented entirely in stainless steel — the resulting wine is ripe and almost jammy, with notes of plum, dark berries, and chocolate. It’s another easy drinker for all sorts of occasions.
