The Wines

1. 2014 Nals Margreid Pinot Grigio (Alto Adige, Italy) – Nals Margreid is one of the highest quality cooperatives in Alto Adige, and their Pinot Grigio is one of the best values out there. Composed of fruit from very old vineyards planted on clay soils, it is a richer, fuller and more expressive version of Pinot Grigio. Clean, bright, and pleasantly refreshing, it offers up lovely notes of pear, green apple, citrus and white flowers. Perfect for summer sipping!

2. 2014 Domaine Maurice Schoech Cotes d’Ammerschwihr (Alsace, France) – The Schoech family can trace its roots in the vineyards of Ammerschwihr back to 1650 — let’s just say they know a thing or two about the land, the climate and the varietals of Alsace. Their Cotes d’Ammerschwihr is a blend of Pinot Blanc (95%) and Muscat, and it is a fine, elegant wine of great value. The Pinot Blanc contributes fleshy pear and apple notes while the Muscat gives the wine an exotic edge in the form of orange zest and white flowers.

3. 2014 Elk Cove Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley, Oregon) – In case you haven’t heard, Vintage 2014 in Oregon was a great one — Wine Spectator scored the vintage 97 points! When you add that to the fact that Elk Cove is one of the most respected veteran producers of the region, you have the formula for great wine. This is classic Elk Cove Pinot — richer and fuller in style, but with silky tannin, it offers up an incredible mix of ripe cherry, blueberry and plum fruit buttressed by more complex notes of spice, cedar and black tea. Perfect for drinking with grilled salmon, chicken or pork, it is also delicious with nothing more than a glass and a good friend.
