In fact, we’ve poured over 300 wines for free in 2019. And we’re ending the year in style with some tasty bubbles and some delicious new arrivals. The Wines
1. NV Tenuta Degli Ultimi ‘Sanguefreddo’ Prosecco Extra Dry (Veneto, Italy) – This is Prosecco on another level. From hillside vineyards in Conegliano, one of the top spots for growing Glera, this is exotic, heady, and delicious bubbly. Boasting terrific aromas and flavors of honeysuckle, pear, apple and citrus zest, this is delightful.
2. NV Bohigas Cava Brut Reserva (Penedes, Spain) – One of the great sparkling wine values on the planet, the Bohigas Cava goes toe to toe with a lot of much more expensive wines. Grapes are hand-harvested and the secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle, just like Champagne. The resulting wine is deep and complex with gorgeous notes of spiced apple, dried flowers, and great minerality.
3. 2018 Chateau de Pennautier Chardonnay (Languedoc, France) – For fans of fresh, clean, and flinty White Burgundy, you’re going to love this wine. No, it’s not from Burgundy, but man it tastes like it is. Fermented in stainless steel, this one is fresh and balanced with lovely notes of pineapple and citrus with underlying notes of hazelnut and mineral.
4. 2018 Chateau de Pennautier Pinot Noir (Languedoc, France) – Like the estate’s Chardonnay, the Pinot Noir is also exceptional and a great value too. Few parts of the Languedoc produced good Pinot Noir, but Pennautier’s vineyards near Limoux are cooler and the grape does very well here. This one offers up medium-bodied notes of red fruits and spices on a silky, fresh palate.
