Kermit Lynch Super Saturday Wine Tasting - Saturday, February 24th

Saturday, February 24th from 2-5pm – Join us for a Kermit Lynch Super Saturday Wine Tasting. Richard McKinney and Nick Demos of Tryon Distributing join us to pour 8 small family estate, French wines from the legendary Kermit Lynch portfolio. He was the first to use refrigerated containers to prevent wines from being heat damaged, and his roster of small family domaines is incredibly impressive. If you like honest, terroir-influenced French wines, don’t miss this tasting. No RSVP is required and you do not have to be a Grape Nut to attend — just pay $5 before you begin the tasting and have a great time.

1. 2016 Eric Chevalier Chardonnay (Loire Valley, France) – Eric Chevalier is the fourth generation of his family to farm vines in the maritime-influenced, Nantais region of France. He owns a small plot of Chardonnay vines planted in rocky, mineral-rich soils and he ferments with native yeasts in glass-lined vats to produce this clean, crunchy, and mineralic version of Chardonnay.

2. 2016 Chateau Graville-Lacoste Graves Blanc (Bordeaux, France) – Hervé Dubordieu makes some of the greatest White Bordeaux values on the planet. He’s a perfectionist and it shows in his wines, but he doesn’t charge nearly enough for his wines. This one is a blend of 75% Semillon, 20% Sauvignon Blanc, and 5% Muscadelle, all from old plantings. Rich, full, and aromatic, yet clean and focused, this is always a superb white wine.

3. 2016 Meyer-Fonné Edelzwicker (Alsace, France) – Edelzwicker is the Alsatian term for a blended white wine, and certified-organic producer Meyer-Fonné makes a great one. A blend of 60% Pinot Blanc with smaller amounts of Chasselas, Muscat, and Riesling, it is fresh, aromatic and complex……..and it conveniently comes “packed” in a larger, 1 liter bottle. As Kermit said, “a regular-bottle just isn’t enough.” I concur 100%

4. 2016 Domaine de la Chanteleuserie Bourgueil “Cuvée Alouettes” (Loire Valley, France) – This is a classic rendition of Loire Valley Cabernet Franc, and one I delight in year after year. From a combination of older and newer plantings, and fermented entirely in stainless steel with native yeasts, it smells and tastes of earthy red fruit and spices. Fresh, but intense, it is wonderful when served with a slight chill.

5. 2015 Régis Bouvier Bourgogne Rouge “En Montre Cul” (Burgundy, France) – The wine world is abuzz about the incredible quality of the 2015 Red Burgundies. Taste this one, and you’ll see why! Marsannay-based producer Régis Bouvier make this wine from old vines located on steep slopes in the far northern part of the Cote de Nuits. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in older barrels, it is a pure and stunning Red Burg to drink now or over the next 5-7 years.

6. 2016 Kermit Lynch Languedoc (Languedoc, France) – Over forty years of doing business in France and Italy have given Kermit Lynch a level of expertise that few in the wine industry can boast. Every year, Kermit enjoys a creative collaboration with some growers to find the best of their selections. Together, they work towards creating a final blend that showcases the region in all its glory at a price point that is difficult to match. This classic Languedoc blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, and Cinsault is one of his finest!

7. 2016 Domaine de Fontsainte Corbières Rouge (Langudeoc, France) – Kermit has been importing this producer’s wines for over 30 years, and Fontsainte remains one of the top producers in the Languedoc. Their Corbières Rouge is comprised of 60% Carignan, 30% Grenache, and 10% Syrah, all from older vines, and the wine is fermented in stainless steel and is aged for 6 months in barrel. Rich, spicy, rustic, and satisfying, you will be hard-pressed to find a better Languedoc red for the money.

8. 2016 Domaine de Durban Beaumes de Venise Rouge (Rhone Valley, France) – The Southern Rhone Valley experienced another stellar vintage in 2016, and this might be one of the top values of the vintage. A blend of 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 5% Mourvedre fermented in stainless steel and aged in barriques, it offers up an explosion of rich and opulent flavors. Warm kirsch, ripe berries, Provencal herbs, and spices come to mind. Yum!
