Stop by the store this Saturday, August 9th any time between 2 and 5 p.m. for one of the best educational and free wine tastings in Asheville. This Saturday, we’ll pour a terrific little trio of Spanish wines including one of the best under-$15 whites in the world followed by a couple of vastly different Tempranillos. We’ll try one that is light, fruit forward and friendly followed by another that is full bodied, rich, and more structured. Tempranillo is one of Spain’s most famous and prolific red grape varieties and it’s grown in a variety of regions throughout the country. The style of wine produced from the grape can vary tremendously, and this Saturday’s tasting is your chance to experience this firsthand.
We’ll start with the 2013 Ostatu Rioja Blanco, a lovely blend of old vine Viura and Malvasia. Possessing layered aromas and flavors of fresh pear, lemon, apple, spice, and mineral, this is a white wine that offers depth, focus, and complexity rarely encountered in wines that retail for less than $15. Next, the 2013 Flaco Tempranillo is Spain’s answer to French Beaujolais. Light, fresh and packed with juicy and spicy red fruits, this low tannin red is priced to sell and perfect for parties. And we’ll finish with the 2011 Ercavio Tempranillo from the warmer La Mancha region of Spain. Deeper in color and flavor, this oak aged Tempranillo will appeal to Cab and Malbec drinkers with its smoky, dark berry and spice accented personality. The only thing left for you to do is stop by, taste, learn and save this and every Saturday at Table Wine.
