The spirit of Dionysus is always alive and well at Table Wine, but for this Friday Winedown scheduled for Friday, March 23, he will be here in full force! Derek Boles, from Dionysus Distribtors will be in the house pouring a fat selection of wines from their strong domestic portfolio for 4 to 7 p.m., and the cost is just $5/person or it’s free if you’re a Grape Nut!
Join us as we sample several small production, delicious wines from some of the West Coast’s top up and coming, family owned wineries. In addition to the sampling, all of the wines will be offered by the glass at super prices and palate cleansers will be served as well.
1. Montinore Pinot Gris – What a turnaround! 10 years ago, Montinore’s wines were ok at best, but since converting all of their vineyards over to organic viticulture, lowering their yields and their productions levels, they are making some of Oregon’s best wine values. Their Pinot Gris is dry and fresh, with lovely notes of pear, apple, apricot and fresh flowers.
2. Stuhlmuller Chardonnay – Those in the know know that Stuhlmuller is one of California’s hidden gems. For years, Fritz Stuhlmuller sold all of his fruit to a who’s who of top Sonoma Chardonnay producers, but in 1993, he finally began estate bottling his wines to rave reviews. The house style is rich, but balanced with aromas and flavors one typically finds in $50+ bottles of Chardonnay.
3. Montinore Borealis – Here’s a fun one – 34% Muller Thurgau, 34% Riesling, 17% Pinot Gris and 15% Gewurztraminer! It is just off-dry and offers up crowd pleasing notes of ripe peach, melon, citrus and flowers. It could be the ultimate “deck wine”!
4. Don Pascual Tannat “Pueblo del Sol” – Tannat is the grape, Uruguay is the country and this one goes down real easy. Fruit driven and dry, it offers up rich notes of blueberry, black cherry, pomegranate, spices and lavender. Try something new……………try Tannat!
5. Wellington Zinfandel – The Wellington father and son team do a wonderful job producing wines that taste great but don’t cost a lot. Their Zin is a classic interpretation with tons of brambly berry fruit, raisin, vanilla and smoky sage.
6. Textbook Cabernet Sauvignon – Susan and Jonothan Pey (husband and wife) make this fantastic Napa Cab that a friend of mine in San Francisco first told me about several months back. Well, now it’s available in North Carolina, and I can see why he was so amped about it! It is bold, yet balanced and pretty, with a nice mix of cherry and black cherry fruit along with subtle notes of tobacco leaf, spices and vanilla.
7. Rock Wall Petite Sirah – Make sure to bring a tooth brush to this tasting as this will undoubtedly leave your mouth purple! This is a BIG WINE with jammy, almost liqueurish-like notes of blueberry and blackberry along with chocolate, vanilla and spice notes. A great way to end a great tasting!
