The best wine tasting in Asheville.

Friday Wine Tasting - Table Wine Staff Favorites

Join us this Friday, August 22nd any time between 4 and 7 p.m. to “wine down” your work week and get your week end off to a good start with the best wine tasting in Asheville! This week, we’ll be pouring a guaranteed great lineup of wines favored by your friendly wine consultants, aka Team Table Wine. Want to taste what your “wine guys” are drinking? All you have to do is stop by! It’s just $5 to try 5 wines, or it’s free if you’re a Grape Nut and your membership is up to date.

In addition to the wine tasting, our friends and local beekeepers Maria and Tom Vadeboncoeur will be in the house with free samples of their locally made Sourwood Honey. This is “real-deal,” unfiltered, raw honey that comes from hives located at 3,100 feet in the mountains of Transylvania County. Their hives are in a non-agricultural area of forests and meadows, so the bees are not feeding on GMO or chemically sprayed plants. Additionally, they use no chemical treatments on their hives whatsoever. To read more about the good work they do, just click here to check out their website. It’s completely natural and absolutely delicious, just like the wines we’ll pour!

Up first, the 2012 Visintini Pinot Grigio comes from the Friuli region of Northeastern Italy. This tiny, organic, family owned and operated estate lets the grayish/pinkish colored skin of their Pinot Grigio steep with juice for a short bit. This process gives the wine a light orange/pink color and adds body and texture to the wine, and Josh drinks at least a bottle a week. Up next, the 2012 Les Aphillanthes Cotes du Rhone Blanc comes from another organic/biodynamic, small family estate and hails from the Southern Rhone Valley, just north of Provence. Ben found this one, a lovely, aromatic blend of Viognier, Roussanne, and Clairette that offers up notes of ripe peach, nectarine, apricot, and honeysuckle. Ben says it might just be the ultimate “porch pounder.”

Moving into the reds, the 2012 Sorelle Palazzi Sangiovese is yet another winner produced from organically grown grapes and fermented with native yeasts. Josh loves the slightly funky character of this traditionally made, earthy, saddle leather-scented red. Next up is a wine that all three of us like, the 2011 Casa Contini Brindisi Riserva, a blend of primarily Old Vine Negroamaro with smaller amounts of Primitivo and Sangiovese that sees some extended oak aging. If you like big flavored, spicy reds that go great with or without food, you’ve got to get in and try this. To finish things up, the 2008 Noster Priorat comes from the northeastern coast of Spain, a little bit southwest of Barcelona. Being that the wine has a little bit of age on it, Tom loves the rounded, spicy character of this Old Vine Garnacha/Carignan blend. Team Table Wine is really excited to share these new wines with you, and we hope you can all make it by to taste, learn, and save this Friday.

Tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle, 15% off if you mix six of them, and 20% off if you mix twelve of them!
