Friday Wine Down - Asheville's Best Wine Tasting

Join us this Friday, July 25th any time between 4 and 7 p.m. to “wine down” your work week and get your week end off to a good start with Asheville’s best wine tasting! It’s just $5 to try 5 wines, or it’s free if you’re a Grape Nut. This week, we’ll be exploring a delicious and diverse lineup of Italian wines that taste good with or without food. Italians love to have wine with food. Thus, many Italian wines are naturally high in acidity and/or tannin; when you put the two together, the wine can make the food taste better and the food can make the wine taste better. Americans, on the other hand, often enjoy their wines without food, and Italian wines drunk without food can come off as sharp, edgy, tart and tangy, all characteristics that many Americans don’t find pleasing. But that’s not always the case, and this week we’re going to showcase Italian wines that drink well with or without a meal.

We’ll start with the Wine of the Week, the 2013 Nals Margreid Pinot Grigio “Punggl,” the current best Pinot Grigio being produced in Italy. Up next, the 2012 Tenuta Sant’Antonio Scaia Bianco blends Garganega and Chardonnay together to create a round and exotic white wine marked by notes of creamy mango, pineapple, herbs and spices.

Moving into the first red, the 2012 Tenuta Sant’Antonio Scaia Rosso is 100% Corvina, the headlining grape in Valpolicella. Juicy, spicy, friendly, and very easy to drink, this berry scented and flavored red is one of the best red wine values in the store. The 2012 Vajra Rosso Langhe comes from one of our favorite producers in the Piemonte. A blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Pinot Noir, Albarossa, and Pinot Noir, this medium bodied, freshly fruited red wine goes down super easy. And to finish things up, the 2011 Corte Majoli Valpolicella Ripasso is a ton of wine for the money! Boasting a full bodied bouquet and palate of ripe cherry, spices, and chocolate, it finishes sweet and succulent. Come on by, taste, learn, and save every Friday at Table Wine.

Tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle, 15% off if you mix six of them, and 20% off if you mix twelve of them!
