1. 2016 Poderi Parpinello “Ala Blanca” Vermentino (Sardinia, Italy) – What an absolutely gorgeous white wine and a great alternative to un-oaked Chardonnay. With intense notes of ripe apple, peach, lime, and freshly cut green herbs, this medium bodied white wine is very attractive.

2. 2016 Paolo Petrilli Motte del Lupo (Puglia, Italy) – Jay Murrie of Durham’s Piedmont Wine Imports brings this one to us from a small, certified organic estate based in Lucera in the heel of Italy’s boot. It is one of the most charming Southern Italian reds I’ve ever tried. A stainless steel fermented blend of Nero di Troia, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, and the rarely seen Bombino Bianco, it is much lighter and fresher than most Puglian reds. Bright notes of cherry, plum, herbs and spice flow through this extreme Italian red wine value. Yum!

3. 2016 Elio Perrone Barbera d’Asti Tasmorcan (Piemonte, Italy): It’s our Wine of the Week, and it’s a tremendous value in rich, polished Barbera. From famed producer Elio Perrone and from the highly acclaimed 2016 vintage, this is certainly fuller-weighted, more flamboyant Barbera. Boasting rich and ripe notes of blueberry, black cherry, bosyenberry, clove and all-spice, it is deeply colored, beautifully textured, and just downright delicious!
