1. Perelada Brut Reserva (Penedès, Spain) – From mostly estate vineyards, Perelada grows the indigenous trio of Xarel-Lo, Parellada, and Macabeo in the region’s beloved chalky soil. With quite fine bubbles, this may very-well be the best low-cost bubbly I’ve tasted in my wine career.
2. 2016 La Fleur Belle Vigne Côtes de Gascogne (Southwest France) – The wines of Gascogne in Southern France are renowned for their impeccable quality for the price and this is no exception. From the home of Armagnac, this blend of Colombard and Ugni Blanc is somewhat reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc and smells like a summer garden; perfect for picnics.
3. 2015 Vignerons de Buxy Pinot Noir-Gamay (Burgundy, France) – This deliciously fresh blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay is downright charming. Medium to light-bodied, low in tannin, and possessing pure flavors of ripe strawberry, raspberry, and subtle earthy accents, it is perfect for hot summer days. I’ll take two.
