Saturday, March 16th from 2-5pm – Sauvignon Blanc Lovers Unite! It’s Asheville’s best free wine tasting, and we’re pouring up a trio of zesty and invigorating Sauvignon Blancs from various regions of the world.
Sauvignon Blanc can be a bit polarizing. The grape’s green and herbaceous flavors aren’t for everybody, but many love the brisk and racy style of this prolific grape. Grown in a variety of countries, the grape tends to retain its acidity regardless of terroir. Join us as we take you on a Sauvignon Blanc journey and talk and taste you through the various styles of wine the grape can produce. Stop by, taste, learn, and save!
Asheville’s Best Free Wine Tasting – Just stop by – we’ve got plenty of free parking!
Don’t forget, all the featured tasting wines are 20% off by the bottle on tasting day.
1. 2017 Bayten Sauvignon Blanc (Constantia, South Africa) – From one of South Africa’s leading Sauvignon Blanc producers, this is a live-wire white wine. Fermented in stainless steel, this one exudes intense aromas and flavors of lime, gooseberry, bell pepper and citrus zest. This will appeal especially to those who like high-toned (high acid) white wines.
2. 2018 Satellite Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough, New Zealand) – Satellite is the ‘second label’ of Spy Valley, one of the most trusted names in Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. A great value, this one showcases the more exotic, tropical side of the grape. Look for classic New Zealand notes of grapefruit, kiwi and herb.
3. 2017 Smith Story Sauvignon Blanc (Sonoma County, California) – My friends Alison Smith and Eric Story make the best Sauvignon Blanc in the USA! Just 835 cases were produced in the low-yielding 2017 vintage, and the fruit comes from unique sites in Knights Valley, Sonoma Mountain, and the Russian River Valley AVA’s. Tasting like a top-flight Sancerre with a little more ripeness and body, this is world-class Sauvignon Blanc. 94 points JS
