1. 2017 Ostatu Rioja Blanco (Rioja, Spain) – Year in and year out, Ostatu makes one of the best white wine values on the planet. Made from a blend of 60-70 year old Viura and Malvasia grown in chalky/clay soils, the wine is fermented in stainless steel and bottled without any further aging. Boasting notes of bright lemon along with some richer, lusher fruit nuances and chalky minerality, it’s kind of like Sauvignon Blanc with a little more weight and complexity.

2. 2014 Enrique Mendoza Monastrell “La Tremenda” (Alicante, Spain) – One of the great Monastrell champions and red wine producers of Southern Spain, this wine is an absolute joy to drink. “La Tremenda” is a single plot of old Monastrell vines grown in the rugged and arid region of Alicante………..the vine truly struggles here and the resulting wines are intense and distinctive. This year’s release is incredible when you consider the price — full bodied, silken in texture, and lengthy on the finish, it offers up ripe and accessible notes of dark cherry, blueberry, plum and cocoa. 92 points The Wine Advocate

3. 2016 Creta Ribera del Duero (Ribera del Duero, Spain) – What an incredible value in rich and expressive Tempranillo from Spain’s famed Ribera del Duero zone. Made with grapes from 70+ year old vines, the wine is aged for 5 months in a combination of French and American oak. Full-bodied, yet pliant and open-knit, it offers up intriguing aromas and flavors of dark fruit, smoky mineral, and spice. Try this one with lamb tonight — you won’t regret it!
