Asheville’s Best Free Wine Tasting – South African Selections – Friday, April 17th from 4 to 7 p.m. – Over the past twelve months, we’ve tasted a bunch of wine and I can’t think of any country whose value priced offerings have impressed us as much as those from South Africa. There’s a lot of good stuff going on in the South African wine scene, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. More than possibly any country, South African vintners have adopted a sustainable approach to the farming of their vineyards. Combine that with youthful innovation and a more European, hands off approach in the cellar and you have yourself a wine revolution well under way. Join us for a fun and informational South African wine tasting. All tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle, 15% off if you mix any 6-11 bottles, or 20% off if you mix any 12 more bottles.

All wines are under $10!
1. 2014 Man Vintners Chenin Blanc (Paarl): This is our Case of the Week and here’s your chance to try it. 100% old vine, dry and sustainably farmed Steen (the South African name for Chenin Blanc), this dry, crisp and refreshing white wine makes for a perfect companion on a warm and sunny day. 90 points The Wine Advocate
2. 2014 Beyond Sauvignon Blanc (Constantia): This is a wonderful, light and bright rendiiton of Sauvignon Blanc that reminds us a little bit of Sancerre. We’re not kidding! It bursts with aromas and flavors of lime, grapefruit, honeyed melon and herb. Talk about delightful!
3. 2012 Fairvalley Pinotage (Western Cape): Here’s a great rendition of South Africa’s Pinotage grape, a wine that can sometimes be quite “unique,” and that’s putting it politely. This one is just full or ripe and rich cherry, raspberry and plum fruit. It’s a delicious and casual red to enjoy by itself or with anything off the grill.
