Free Saturday Wine Tasting

This Saturday, May 10th, 2014 from 2 to 5 p.m. — Free Wine Tasting — Stop by the store this and every Saturday any time between 2 and 5 p.m. for a free wine tasting that. This week, we’re going to continue Friday’s Spring/Summer Grilling Mates theme! Whereas Friday’s tasting always includes a couple of premium/top shelf selections and a $5 entry fee, on Saturday we focus on great values, or what we like to call “Tuesday Night Wines,” and it’s free.

We’ll start with 2012 Matchbook Chardonnay “Old Head,” a wine made by the Giguiere family, the original makers of Toasted Head Chardonnay. From the Dunnigan Hills AVA of California, it offers up a nice mix of orchard and tropical fruit notes backed up by notes of vanilla, butterscotch and toast, this is the perfect pre-dinner wine. Next up the 2011 Curator Red is made by Adi Badenhorst, one of South Africa’s top winemakers. It blends mainly Shiraz with smaller amounts of Mourvedre, Cinsault and Vigonier to create a friendly, unpretentious red wine that loves barbecued pork steaks or chicken thighs. Last, but not least, we’ll finish up with the 2012 Honoro Vera Merlot from Juan Gil Family Estates. From older vines planted in the Jumilla region, this lush, rich and smooth red is packed with ripe cherry, blueberry, plum and spice notes. With a silky texture, it would work well with something as regal as Filet Mignon or something as simple as leftover barbecued chicken. So stop by, taste some great wines, buy some great wines, and then head to the Fresh Market (it’s less than a mile away) to pick out what you’re going to grill yourself for dinner. Don’t forget, all tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle and 15% off when you mix any six tasting wines!
