The Wines
1. 2013 Mannara Grillo/Pinot Grigio (Sicily, Italy) – This dry, easy drinking Sicilian white is simply delicious. Boasting pure aromas and flavors of apple, pear, citrus, and flowers, this is a great all seasons white wine to pair with everything from fish to poultry.
2. 2013 Chateau Magneau Graves Blanc (Bordeaux, France) – Chateau Magneau’s White Graves has been in the store since we opened. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Muscadelle from organically farmed vineyards in the southern part of Bordeaux, it is a wonderful introduction to high quality White Bordeaux. Intensely aromatic with notes of rocky mineral, lime, and green apple, the palate is brisk, clean, and refreshing.
3. 2013 Mannara Primitivo (Puglia, Italy) – Primitivo possesses exactly the same DNA as Zinfandel, and it’s one of the leading grape varieties of Southern Italy. This one is a great introduction to the Italian “treatment” of the grape — uncomplicated, juicy, supple, and super easy to drink, it makes a great house wine.
4. 2013 La Grange de Piaugier Cotes du Rhone (Rhone Valley, France) – We would venture to guess that at least six of my mortgage payments have been “assisted” by our sales of various Cotes du Rhones. This one is a great example of why so many love the red wines of Southern France. Mainly Grenache, with smaller portions of Syrah, Mourvedre, and a few others, it’s medium bodied, juicy, and spicy. The price we’re offering it at today is utterly ridiculous, especially if you buy it by the case!
