1. 2017 El Casetero Macabeo “Seleccion” (Campo de Borja, Spain) – Here’s an outstanding white wine value that’s perfect for spring/summer. 100% Macabeo, aka Viura, from old, dry-farmed, hand harvested vineyards, it’s fermented entirely in stainless steel. Super fresh and delightfully aromatic, this one offers up lovely notes of lime, fresh herbs, hay, and white pepper.
2. 2017 Domaine Font-Mars Rosé Clémence (Languedoc, France) – Syrah doesn’t just produce meaty, rich, and smoky reds. Here’s the proof! This delightful, 100% Syrah-based rosé is silky and open-knit, with aromas and flavors of tangerine, white peach, and jasmine. Bone-dry, but rounded, this is one I look forward to every year.
3. 2016 Empordalia Sinols Negre (Emporda, Spain) – For fans of Priorat and Montsant, this delicious red is going to be your new best friend! A blend of 40% Garnacha, 30% Carignan, and 30% Merlot, this one soars with ripe cherry, blackberry, licorice, and pepper notes. Rich and fleshy, yet fresh at the same time, this is like really good Priorat for less than $15.
