The Wines
1. 2014 Domaine de Bernier Chardonnay (Loire Valley, France) – Many tasters will not recognize this wine as Chardonnay! From the rocky, mineral infused soils of France’s Muscadet region, this is bone dry, super crisp and flowing with mineral complexity. It sees just a touch of oak to round things out a bit and drinks every bit as good as an entry level Chablis at a fraction of the price.
2. 2014 Maison Fabre “Serpolet” Cotes de Provence Rose (Provence, France) – Provence is one of the top spots in the world for dry rose, and the natives of the region drink copious amounts of the stuff. One taste of this wine and we think you’ll understand why. A blend of Cinsault, Grenache, and Syrah fermented in stainless steel until completely dry, it offers up lovely notes of rounded red fruit, herb, and citrus zest.
3. 2014 Domaine du Vissoux Beaujolais “Cuvée Pierre Chermette” (Beaujolais, France) – Husband and wife Pierre-Marie and Martine Chermette make some of the most lipsmackingly good Beaujolais on the planet. Bursting with juicy red fruits, a hint of earth, some spice and virtually no tannin, this is a delightful, warm weather red to enjoy with friends and spring cuisine like salmon, grilled mushrooms, or herb roasted chicken.
