Saturday, October 20th from 2-5pm – Oregon wine lovers unite for a Division Wine Company Tasting at Table Wine! This is hands-down my favorite new Oregon producer, and the wines are sensational.

Division Winemaking Company is a Portland, Oregon based winery founded in 2010 by Kate Norris and Thomas Monroe. Inspired by the wines of France’s Loire Valley, Beaujolais, and Burgundy, where the two learned how to make wine, they make delicious, balanced, and approachable wines. In addition, they make their wines with minimal manipulation, worked with meticulously farmed vineyards which are organic and/or biodynamic. And they do all of this out of their urban winery, located in downtown Portland.

I have not been as excited about a “brand” or “line” of wines in a long time. Every time my buddy Ryan Brazell brings me a new one, I buy it! And you’ll get to taste exactly why. Oh yeah. 1. 2017 Division Wine Company Gamine Aligote “Vintage Family Farm” (Elkton, Oregon) – When Ryan told me about this 50 case production white, I thought he was crazy. Aligote from Burgundy is hard enough to sell. What am I going to do with $30 Aligote from Oregon? One taste of it, and I got my answer. Buy all 18 bottles available! This is better than 95% of Aligotes from Burgundy. It’s beautifully aromatic and has a gorgeous, weighty texture. Get to the tasting early, because this will go fast.

2. 2017 Division Wine Company Gamay Noir “Lutte” (Willamette Valley, Oregon) – Like the preceding wine, this took my breath away when I tasted it. And if you know me, you know I’ve got a horrible Gamay addiction, but I’m also picky. This smells straight-up like Fleurie or Morgon from a very reputable producer. Lithe, lively, and possessing gorgeous notes of cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and white pepper, this zesty red is one of my new favorites. Just 200 cases produced.

3. 2017 Division Wine Company “Un” (Willamette Valley, Oregon) – This is Division’s highest production wine — a whopping 821 cases were made, and only 21 cases were allocated to North Carolina. I bought 14 of those 21. For less than $30, there’s not a better Oregon Pinot Noir on the market. There, I said it! Full flavored and complex on both the nose and the palate, this exhibits incredible notes of earthy spice, raspberry, strawberry, and dark mineral. Wow, seriously WOW!

4. 2017 Division Villages Beton Red Blend (Various Regions, Oregon) – Kate and Thomas love the fresh, lively and earthy reds that come from Touraine, in France’s Loire Valley. This is their ode to one of those. A blend of 60% Cabernet France, 20% Gamay, 10% Cot, and 5% Pinot Noir, this smells like it came straight outta’ Touraine! Potent, yet lively dark fruits, tons of peppery pyrazines, and an almost Mezcal-like smokiness permeate this brooding, yet fresh red wine. Just 605 cases produced.
