Stop by the store every Saturday any time between 2 and 5 p.m. for an educational and free wine tasting. This Saturday, we’re continuing our North and South American theme with a great tasting featuring some of our favorite extreme value wines of the Americas. Offering great QPR (quality to price ratio), these are all great wines to have around the house for daily drinking or for serving at large gatherings…….remember, the holidays are just around the corner!
We’ll start with the 2013 Undurraga Sauvignon Blanc, a wonderful rendition of the grape from Chile’s Maipo Valley. Offering up dry and zesty notes of citrus, herb, and light mineral, it will remind many of you of a well made New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Next up, the 2012 Cartlidge and Browne Chardonnay comes from choice vineyard sites throughout California’s North Coast. Offering up classic “Cali-Chard” notes of ripe, spice accented apple, pear, tropical fruits and buttered toast, it makes for a great aperitif or a great pairing partner with roasted root vegetables, especially butternut squash.
Moving on to the reds, we’ll start with the 2012 Undurraga Cabernet Sauvignon, a terrific value from Chile’s Rapel Valley. Boasting a deep color and classic varietal notes of ripe berries framed by spicy, toasty oak notes, it makes for a perfect “Cocktail Cab” — that means it’s great with or without food. To finish up, the 2008 Matchbook Tinto Rey is one of California’s great red wine values. A blend of Tempranillo, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Graciano, it delivers complex notes of exotic spice, tobacco, and red and black currant. At over six years of age now, it is drinking wonderfully. We can guarantee you that this will be Asheville’s best free wine tasting on this day, so all you have to do is stop by, taste, learn and save. We’ll see you this Saturday.
Tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle, 15% off when you mix any six of them and 20% off if you mix twelve!
