The best way to learn about wine is to taste it, and we conduct one of Asheville’s Best Free Wine Tastings every Saturday from 2 to 5. This week, we’re continuing the “party wine” theme, with some great tasting, great value California wines. It’s hard to find good wine under $10 from our own country, but it’s not impossible. Stop by and see and taste for yourself.
First up, the 2013 Canyon Road Chardonnay offers up classic, ripe Chardonnay notes of pear, apple, citrus and light toasty oak notes. At less than $8/bottle, it’s the perfect “Party Chard” or the perfect wine to serve that friend of yours who guzzles your more expensive wines with reckless abandon. Next, the 2013 Canyon Road Merlot is a soft, smooth, cherry and plum fruited wine. With mild tannin and an overall friendly personality, it makes for a great cocktail red. After that one, the 2013 Canyon Road Cabernet Sauvignon is another red that goes great with or without food. Offering up a nice mix of ripe black cherry and blueberry fruit with just a kiss of oak, it would for a great burger wine. More serious and structured, we’ll finish with 2012 Cartlidge & Browne Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes are sourced from warmer sites scattered throughout Lake County and Alexander Valley, and 2012 was a great year in the region. Aged in French oak for 16 months, this rich and structured Cab could easily compete against wines costing twice the price. Join us this Saturday to taste, learn, and save on some perfect every-day and/or party wines.
Tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle, 15% off when you mix any six of them and 20% off if you mix twelve!
