Saturday Wine Tasting at Table Wine in Asheville, NC.

Crisp and Crunchy Whites - A Free Wine Tasting - Saturday, October 19th, 2013 - 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Make your Saturday even better by stopping by Table Wine to taste a great batch of crisp and crunchy whites. Don’t you just love the adjectives we come up with to describe wine? Crisp and crunchy are terms that are commonly associated with un-oaked, dry, high acid white wines. These are wines that will make your mouth water with reckless abandon and that feature flavors of fresh lemon, lime, green apple and kiwi…….to name a few. Wonderful served alongside fresh seafood, chicken, and vegetarian fare, these are also great “pick me up” wines at the end of a long day.
Free to the Public

1. 2011 Lustig Gruner Veltliner (Austria)
We’re told that Lustig is German for fun, funny, and amusing, and this wine is definitely all of those things. Nicely dry, clean and zesty, it pops out of the glass with nice apple, yellow plum and white pepper notes. Even better, it comes in a liter bottle which gets you an extra glass or two for each bottle………..trust us, you’ll be glad there’s extra wine!

2. 2011 Domaine de Bidelere Cotes de Gascogne (France)
This is the classic French wine tale — up until the late 90’s the Beraut family just grew grapes and sold them off in bulk to other wine merchants in the region. Enter the two young sons, who have taken this operation from a grape growing operation to a full-on estate winery, and they are now considered one of the leading estate in the region. A blend of 40 percent ugni blanc, 20 percent gros manseng, 20 percent colombard, 15 percent chardonnay and 5 percent sauvignon blanc, this is a fresh, crisp, medium-bodied wine with white flowers, citrus and apple fruit.

3. 2012 Schloss Muhlenhof Riesling Trocken (Germany)
The Michel family have this estate since 1846, and these days, all of the farming is done without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. This bottling comes in a lovely liter bottle, and the wine is pretty much dry with notes of exotic citrus, white flowers and peppery minerality.
