1. 2017 Forge Cellars Riesling ‘Dry Classique’ (Seneca Lake, New York) – Dry Riesling works well with turkey, ham, and all of the classic Thanksgiving sides. With its naturally bright acidity, it gets the juices flowing and naturally cleanses your palate after each bit. This one, a joint venture between Louis Barruol of Chateau de Saint Cosme in Gigondas and Finger Lakes partners Richard Rainey and Justin Boyette, is fuller-bodied and richer in style, with great concentration and intense flavors.
2. 2018 Villa Wolf Pinot Gris (Pfalz, Germany) – Pinot Gris, with its rounder texture and fruit forward flavors, is a great white to wash down turkey breast and stuffing. And this one comes from Pfalz in Western Germany, just across the border from Alsace. Showing ripe peach, golden apple, and gentle minerality, this vibrant, balanced white will have a lot of fans.
3. 2018 Figuière Rose ‘Le Saint Andre’ (Provence, France) – There’s always dry rose on the Thanksgiving table at my house! And this one comes from on of Provence’s top organic estates. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cinsault, and Grenache, this bright, dry and tangy rose will have you going back for sip after sip.
4. 2016 El Viejo del Valle Pinot Noir (Central Valley, Chile) – Pinot Noir is one of the top Thanksgiving reds of all time, and here’s a fun and budget-friendly version from Coastal Chile. Drinking like a $15-$20 Santa Barbara County Pinot, with is silky red fruits and graceful tannin, you won’t believe the price on this extreme value.
