Bring on the Burgundy Wine Tasting - Saturday, March 2

Saturday, March 2nd from 2-5pm – Free Burgundy Wine Tasting? Sound good? Trust me, it will be. Stop by to sample 5 different whites and reds from the greatest wine region in the world.

There is a saying among wine aficionados that on the journey to wine understanding, all roads eventually lead to Burgundy. I am of this camp, as I find the wines of this region to be some of the most seductive and complex produced on the planet. What is it about this historic viticultural region that incites such passion and emotion among wine lovers? We’ll do our best to break it down for you at this tasting, but trust me, we’re just going to be touching the surface. I will spend the rest of my life studying the region and her wines, as it is one of the most difficult to comprehend. Trust me, I’ll manage and I’ll enjoy every second of it. Stop by, taste some fabulous wines, save big!

Asheville’s Best Free Wine Tasting – Just stop by – we’ve got plenty of free parking!

Don’t forget, all the featured tasting wines are 20% off by the bottle on tasting day.

1. 2015 Domaine des Terres Dorees Beaujolais Blanc (Beaujolais, France) – Yes, Beaujolais is part of Burgundy and some of the Chardonnays being produced here easily rival some of the best wines of the Maconnais. Jean-Paul Brun makes one of my favorites. He works with extremely old vines, he ferments with native yeasts in stainless steel, and he ages this wine on the lees. The result is magnificent White Burgundy flowing with golden fruits, bright citrus, and white flowers.

2. 2017 Domaine du Prieure Savigny les Beaune Blanc (Burgundy, France) – Wow! That’s what I said after I tasted this one recently. From a single plot of Chardonnay planted in 1927, this is serious White Burgundy at a ridiculously low price. Laced with smoky, sappy aromas and flavors of spiced apple, citrus, and smoky mineral, it drinks way above its price point.

3. 2017 Domaine des Terres Dorees Beaujolais L’Ancien (Beaujolais, France) – Two wines from one producer huh? Yep, JP Brun deserves it! He de-stems his fruit and ferments “traditionally,” with native yeasts in concrete tanks. In addition, these are Mr. Brun’s oldest Gamay vines and age is key when it comes to Gamay. The resulting wines exhibits wonderfully ripe notes of cherry, raspberry, strawberry, and earth.

4. 2017 Domaine du Prieure Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Beaune Rouge (Burgundy, France) – It is so key to know about your producer when buying Burgundy. Why? Because there’s a lot of bad stuff out there! And here’s a wine that out-performs it’s simple “Bourgogne Rouge” name. From 40+ year old vines in the village of Savigny-les-Beaune, this is a stunning wine that offers loads of class and sophistication for less than $20. It’s a rare bird indeed!

5. Surprise Wine – It will be red, it will be special, it will hopefully incite awe and wonder. FYI, we’ll only open 1 bottle of this one. Come early!
