France’s Languedoc zone is home to some of the country’s greatest values. Producing everything from crisp whites to bold reds, the wines of the Languedoc offer something for everybody. The warm, Mediterranean-influenced climate is perfect for the cultivation of a variety of grapes, but hearty, heat-withstanding grapes thrive here. And the resulting wines typically offer rustic, spicy, and pleasure-bent personalities. Enough talk, stop by and taste! And don’t forget, all of the featured tasting wines are 20% off BY THE BOTTLE on tasting day only. Taste, learn, save every Friday at Table Wine.
All of the featured tasting wines are 20% off by the bottle on tasting day only.
1. 2016 Domaine Cottebrune Faugeres Blanc “Le Cairn” (Languedoc, France): This new, stunning white wine is crafted by Pierre Gaillard, longtime winemaker at Guigal. A blend of equal parts Roussanne, Vermentino, and Grenache Blanc, it’s fermented and aged in stainless steel. The resulting wine is fresh, round, and full of gorgeous fruit and floral notes. Look for flavors of white peach, pear, and flowers. Yum!
2. 2016 Chateau Coupe Roses Minervois “Bastide” (Languedoc, France) –The family of Françoise Le Calvez—parents, son and daughter—manage Château Coupe Roses with passion and acumen high in the Mediterranean hinterlands. Their Bastide bottling is a blend of 48% Carignan, 46% Grenache, and 6% Syrah, fermented and raised in tank. A terrific buy for a true vin de terroir. In this wine is all the garrigue underbrush of the high Minervois, laced with high-toned blueberry notes and underpinned by Carignan’s tarry black notes.
3. 2014 Domaine Des Dux Anes Corbieres Fontanilles (Languedoc, France) – This small, Demeter certified biodynamic estate was founded by Magali Terrier in 2000. Being biodynamic, the winery is a diverse farm with many different animals, including of course, donkeys, but also sheep and many other animals. The estate’s Fontanilles bottling is 60% Carignan, with the balance in Grenache and Syrah. Showing a definite earthy side to the plum and cherry fruit, this one opens up to reveal mineral and spice notes as well. Truly a rugged and rustic, country wine.
