There’s one word for the weather we’ve had to deal with this winter – bipolar! This week, it looks like the forecast is a bit more typical for this time of year. It’s gonna’ be chilly, and there’s nothing better than drinking a hearty and healthy red wine with food, friends or fires this time of year. We’ve got five for you to try this Friday that will do the trick. Come “try before you buy” some new stuff that just hit the store. $5/person…..Free for Grape Nuts.
The Wines
Prices range from $14 to $26
1. 2011 Domaine Amido Cotes du Rhone
We’re anticipating that this will become a new customer favorite. Brand new to the store, it is an extreme value.
2. 2010 Bielsa Garnacha Vinas Viejas
From a 40 year old vineyard that looks an awful lot like one you would find in Chateauneuf du Pape (this one’s in Spain), this is glorious Garnacha.
3. 2009 Le Rote Chianti Colli Senesi
This tastes shares many characteristics of a Chianti Classico Riserva, but sells for half the price. Drink now or cellar for up to 10 years.
4. 2011 Locations F-1 Red Blend
Dave Phinney (Orin Swift) winemaker is up to his old tricks again, this time in France with a Grenache, Syrah, Cab and Merlot blend. Tastes like a super juiced up Cotes du Rhone.
5. 2010 Montepeloso A Quo Red Blend
From one of Tuscany’s rising stars this unique blend of Montepulciano, Cab, Sangiovese, Marselan and Alicante is a tooth stainer for sure!
