This Friday, April 25th, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. — $5/person…..Free for Grape Nuts — Drop by the store this Friday any time between 4 and 7 p.m. to try 5 wines for $5. In case you didn’t know, we (meaning Josh, Ben and Tom) love wine, and we’re excited to share some of our favorites with you this Friday. From one of Josh’s favorite Oregon whites to one of Ben’s favorite Riojas to Tom’s favorite Spanish dry rosé, this is going to be a fun and adventurous sampling of wines from all parts of the globe. Here’s what you’ll get to try:
The Wines (Prices range from $13 to $23)
Tasting wines are 10% off by the bottle, 15% off if you mix any six of them, or 20% off if you mix any twelve of them!
1. 2013 Anne Amie Cuvée A “Amrita” (Willamette Valley, Oregon)
This is one of Josh’s favorite spring and summer whites. An exotic and aromatic blend of Pinot Blanc, Viognier, Riesling, Pinot Gris and a couple of other grapes, it offers up ripe peach, mixed citrus and floral notes. It loves Asian curries and other spicy fare.
2. 2013 Artazuri Garnacha Rosado (Navarra, Spain)
Tom absolutely loves this dry Spanish rosé! Bursting with luscious strawberry, raspberry and cherry fruit along with just a little whiff of white pepper and spring flowers, this is a wine that disappears very quickly!
3. 2009 Palacios Remondo Rioja “La Montesa” (Rioja, Spain)
Josh is a big fan of this unique Rioja in which Garnacha is “driving the bus” as opposed to Tempranillo. Based in Alfaro in Rioja Baja, Bodegas Palacios Remondo is where Alvaro Palacios wields his talent when not in Priorat. From a single vineyard, the cépage is 65% Garnacha, 30% Tempranillo and 5% Mazuelo, and the wine is aged in 20% new oak. The result is one of the great red wine values in the world. Come taste it and see for yourself!
4. 2012 Cartlidge & Browne Merlot (North Coast, California)
Although this isn’t Ben’s favorite wine in the store, it’s definitely one of his favorite “wall wines,” meaning we sell it for less than $15. Grapes are sourced from vineyards in Knight’s Valley and Lake County, and this is just classy, classic Merlot with lovely notes of ripe cherry, plum, mint and spice.
5. 2010 Mulderbosch Faithful Hound (Stellenbosch, South Africa)
All of us like this Bordeaux-styled blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec! With a spicy, smoky nose of dark cherry, blackberry and currant leading into a full bodied palate of dark, smoky fruit, herbs and spices. Enjoy this one with lamb, grilled kebobs or just by itself!
