These tastings are informal, so just drop by anytime between 4 and 7 p.m. this Friday. We guarantee you it is the best way to get your week end off to a great start! Here’s the lineup:
1. Der Pollerhof Gruner Veltliner – We’ve added yet another liter bottling to the arsenal at the store, and this one is dangerous folks. Why? Because it goes down sooooo easy with flavors of dry but ripe tropical fruits, peach and apple.
2. Lagar de Cervera Albarino – This estate is owned by the same family that owns Rioja’s famed La Rioja Alta estate. The current release is really, really good and was just awarded with a 91 point score from Stephen Tanzer. Dry, zesty and intensely flavorful, it offers up bright notes of kiwi, green apple, lemongrass and more.
3. Chateau de Manissy Tavel – The village of Tavel in France’s southern Rhone region is home to what many believe to be the best dry rosé on the planet. This is powerful pink wine folks – dry and zesty, with bold strawberry, black cherry, spices and herbs, it is very deserving of its 90 point score from The Wine Advocate.
4. Domaine Zumbaum Tomasi Pic St. Loup – Pic St. Loup isone of the top spots in southern France for Syrah, and this one is absolutely fantastic! 80% Syrah with 20% Grenache, this boisterous, brawny red is packed with dark berry fruit, smoke, roasted meat, spice and fennel notes – it is made for lamb and grilled meats!
5. Couvillon Cabernet Sauvignon “Sagemoor Vineyard” -This small production, Columbia Valley based, family owned winery has produced a wine for less than $20 that easily tastes like one that would typically cost you $25+. Rich and firm, but with ripe, supple tannins, it coats the palate with cassis and blueberry fruit supported by mocha and spicy oak notes. Yum!
