Table Wine Asheville - Spanish Wine Tasting

545 Wine Tasting - Exploring Spanish Wines - Friday, February 22 - 4:00 to 7:00

From north to south and east to west, Spain continues to produce some of the world’s great wine values. From her crisp, no-oak Verdejos and Albarinos to her spicy-rich reds, no wine producing country on the planet offers more QPR (quality to price ratio) than Spain. Join us this Friday to sample 5 wines, all priced under $20, that drink like those that cost much more. $5/person…..Free for Grape Nuts. Here’s the lineup:

The Wines
Prices range from $13 to $17

1. 2011 Vevi Rueda Blanco
Vevi is a join project between winemaking guru Antonio Sanz and Spanish importer extraordinaire Jose Pastor. A blend of organically grown Verdejo and Viura, this will remind many of you of really good Sauvignon Blanc.

2. 2011 Burgans Albarino
Year in and year out, this wine continues to be one of the top white wine values in the world. A real crowd pleaser, this one abounds with aromas and flavors of tropical fruits, peach and honeysuckle.

3. 2009 Sierra Norte Pasion de Bobal
Bobal is one of Valencia’s native grapes and it is in fact Spain’s third most planted grape variety. This one comes from an old, organically farmed vineyard and it is full and intense, but elegantly balanced. You won’t believe the price on it!

4. 2010 Atteca Garnacha Old Vines
It should be illegal to sell this wine for less than $20! Made with fruit from vineyards averaging 80 to 120 years of age and aged in French oak for 10 months, it is a glass-staining purple color, with notes of ripe blueberry, black cherry, smoke and spice.

5. 2010 Celler Can Blau Montsant
We love the wines of Montsant and Priorat here at Table Wine. They are robust and spicy and in many cases (like this one), more than affordable. This one is a blend of Mazuelo (Carignan), Garnacha and Syrah and it delivers a big mouthful of red and dark fruit along with notions of licorice, mineral and peppery spice.
