SOLD OUT! I’ve got two words for you on this one……..BUY IT! Trust me, it’s not going to last long. We bought all 7 cases that our Western North Carolina distributor got, and we’re already down to about 5 cases.
With that warning out of the way, let’s continue. The nearly perfect 2012 Napa vintage has yielded a bevy of beautiful, open, ripe, and opulent Cabernet Sauvignons and this is one of the best deals out there.
2012 Neyers Cabernet Sauvignon Neyers Ranch
93 points Wine Spectator
SOLD OUT
Bruce Neyers is one of the hardest working guys in the business. In addition to owning a vineyard and running a winery, he is also the National Sales Manager for Kermit Lynch Imports. I’m not sure how he finds time to do it all, but I am 100% sure that he does a fantastic job in both of these roles. Bruce’s long years of working with small, artisanal domaines and estates of France definitely informs his philosophy at Neyers.
This wine comes from Bruce’s Neyers Ranch Vineyard in Napa’s Conn Valley. Located in the hills just east of St. Helena, this vineyard supports Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, and since 1998 has been farmed organically and sustainably. The vineyards are overseen by David Abreu, one of the great viticulturists in the world, and these Cabernet vines are now over 20 years old. As Bruce says, they are “just entering the ‘Sweet Spot’ of their productive years.” Yep, these hard working vines are in a great zone, and Neyers says that he “think(s) it’s the finest wine we’ve made from the grapes grown on our property.”
We agree and so does James Laube of Wine Spectator who awarded the wine 93 points. That’s a great score, but I find it a touch conservative — I’d easily put this one at 95+ points! Deep and opaque in color, the wine smells like heaven upon popping and pouring a glass. Notes of cassis, dark cherry, cedar, and spicy oak flow out of the glass leading into a sumptuous, supple palate or ripe dark berries, spice box, cigar tobacco, licorice, and chocolate. Laube says to drink through 2028, but I wouldn’t wait that long. It’s simply fabulous right now!!!
Like meat? So does this wine. I enjoyed with lamb chops last night and it made for a great pairing. It would be equally awesome with any sort of other grilled meat, but be sure to enjoy a glass without food as well.
