This is the fourth vintage of Poderi Parpinello's Vermentino we have stocked, and it is without a doubt the best this estate has produced. It is hard to put into words how delicious and satisfying this Sardinian white is.
If you love Sauvignon Blanc with a bit more body and complexity, you'll be over the moon when you taste this one. My buddy and importer Mike Tiano (Haw River Wine Man) brought this by the store recently, and right when I stuck my nose in the glass, I knew I was going to buy it. This is a white that smells so incredibly good, and it doesn't taste too bad either :)

Vermentino reaches its pinnacle of quality on the island of Sardinia, and this is as good of an example as you will find. Third generation, family owned and operated Poderi Parpinello really knocked it out of the park with their 2021 Ala Blanca Vermentino. This is a wine with really nice concentration and intensity of flavor, but there's also bright acidity and nerve here.
Because Vermentino is a lesser known variety in the US, you can find high quality wines (like this one) that are incredible values. I'm always advising our customers to branch out and try new wines, and I can't stress that point enough here. If you like other crisp and perfumed whites like Albarino, Gruner Veltliner, or Sauvignon Blanc, you are going to fall in love with this lovely white wine.
Fermented entirely in tank (aka stainless steel), this offers up an enticing nose of white peach, pear, citrus zest, white flowers, and subtle mineral. Fleshy and plump on the palate, this effortlessly balances rich and ripe fruit with zesty acidity, making this both a perfect aperitif and an ideal candidate to serve with fish and/or seafood.
Chill a bottle of this, and enjoy on the porch, by the pool, or at the beach this summer. Please note that Vermentino is one of the all-time great seafood and fish wines. Enjoy with Sunburst trout, wild salmon, or crab cakes. You'll be glad you did!
