La Spinetta is unique in the pantheon of Italian wine. Run by the Rivetti family since the mid-1960's, they make world-class, revered wines in both the Piemonte region and Tuscany. They are one of just a few high-quality, family-run estates to operate in both of these esteemed regions.
Giorgio Rivetti oversees production at La Spinetta's Tuscan estate in Maremma, along Tuscany's southwestern coast. The sunny, Mediterranean-influenced conditions found here are ideal for Vermentino, a grape that thrives in coastal zones. In fact, it has become the benchmark white wine of Maremma, and this is a prime example.
Giorgio never misses a beat with this wine. You can literally smell and taste Mediterranean sun-kissed fruit and herb pulsating through this wine. It's a wonderful representation of grape, place, and person, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
It's hard to put this dazzling Vermentino into words, but I'll try. Think Sauvignon Blanc meets Viognier -- it's bright, lively, and herbaceous yet richly aromatic and exotic. When I tasted this one recently, I jumped on it. I suggest you do the same!
