It might have been a bit presumptuous for the young Stefan Rosner to proclaim this liter of Gruner as your new house wine, but if he hadn't have said it, I would have. This certified organic estate in Kamptal has produced what I believe to be the best liter of Gruner ever.....and there's been a lot of them. Even better, Stefan is one of Austria's rising star producers. Taste this, and you'll know why!
Fairly new to the US and brought to us by a talented new importer, it offers up maximum quality-to-price ratio. Don't let the simple 'hauswein' label make you think this is some sort of superficial wine with a catchy name and label. It's quite the opposite folks, as this wine delivers classic and true varietal aromas and flavors.
I'm not going to wax eloquent about this one. It's just good, like really good. Fresh and packed with flavor, this one lights it up with classic Gruner aromas and flavors of green apple, ripe citrus, green herbs, white pepper, and mineral. Light in body but big in flavor, this goes down easy, and with a lower alcohol level, you can drink a little bit more and not be woozy.
This is the quintessential house white. It's ideal for drinking whenever with whomever, but it also loves lighter Asian and fish/seafood dishes. Stock up before this one runs out again!
