2021 Domaine Thet Montlouis-sur-Loire Sec

The Rarest of Chenin Blancs: 2021 Domaine Thet Montlouis Sec

Domaine Thet Montlouis Sec

Domaine Thet makes brilliantly dry Chenin Blanc in Montlouis-sur-Loire, the smallest appellation in the Loire Valley. Located just across the river and just south of Vouvray, Chenin Blanc (known locally as Pineau de la Loire) does mesmerizing things at this small, family-run, certified organic estate.

Because Montlouis isn't well-known outside of France and also because it is often overshadowed by Vouvray, the wines are VERY reasonably priced. This one, direct-imported and brought to us by Mike Tiano (Haw River Wine Man), balances ripe and honeyed fruit with electric acidity to create one of the best Chenin values we've ever stocked.

Beautifully aromatic and wonderfully balanced, we've got 84 bottles up for grabs at deal pricing.

2021 Domaine Thet Montlouis-sur-Loire Sec -- Here's why you should buy it:

  • This is DEFINITELY DRY Chenin Blanc, unlike the sweeter-styled wines that first made their way to the US. The grape's naturally high acidity is definitely at play here.
  • Balancing richness with tartness, this explodes out of the glass with notes of honeyed citrus, acacia blossom, green apple, ginger, and chalky minerality. Concentrated yet light on its feet, it's a joyful wine to drink now and over the next decade.
  • It out-classes many Vouvrays that cost 2x the price! Don't get me wrong, I love Vouvray, but we've seen prices get a bit out of hand of late. It's worth noting that until Montlouis received its AOC status in 1938, the commune's wines were actually sold as Vouvray...
  • Our pricing is really good on this one, and who doesn't like a good deal. Wine Enthusiast rated this at 90 points with a suggested retail of $36. We're going to crush that price....
