Coming primarily from Limoux, in the Southwestern Languedoc, this cooler part of the region in the foothills of the Pyreness, has long enjoyed a reputation for producing the best French Pinot Noirs outside of Burgundy. - 90 points from Wine Enthusiast, and I concur with their tasting notes. "Ripe black plum, blackberry, hints of dried herbs, violet blossom and Darjeeling tea aromas waft from your glass. The palate indulges a softness of texture that integrates slightly grippy tannins into the fold and presents as a unified whole."
- Pinot Noir and Value are two terms that don't go together very often, but they do in this one. This fickle, grape is one of the most challenging to grow. It "prefers" cooler climates, and its naturally thin skin makes it susceptible to mildew, rot, frost, and wind.
