Antonie Reniaume is one of the young, rising star producers of Southern Burgundy. Based in the village of Bouzeron, long regarded as the best spot in the world to cultivate the Aligote grape, Reniaume has produced a brilliant version in the glorious 2023 vintage.
Aligote often gets dissed, and for good reason -- it often yields uninspired, insipid, and mediocre-at-best white wines. That is not the case with Antoine's Bouzeron Aligote, as he takes great pride in both the grape and his tiny 0.37 hectare parcel of it. This is almost Chablis-like in its purity and terroir-expression, and when was the last time you got good Chablis for less than $25?
We love this wine, and we think you will too!
2023 Antoine Reniaume Bouzeron
Why should you buy it?
- It's the "Other White Burgundy," and it's so clean, so bright, and so minerally. This is a wine for fans of Muscadet, Chablis, and other crisp, clean, and high-toned whites.
- Aligote is a great transmitter of terroir, and you can taste the rocky limestone soils this is grown in with every sip. In addition to its prominent mineral character, it also shows refreshing notes of green apple, lemon, and delicate spice.
- As Antoine says, it's "delicious, gourmet, and sunny," and "this wine has a smile and gives it to you." It certainly makes me smile when I drink it!
And I love drinking this zesty white with oysters, trout, or delicate seafood dishes just as much as I like to sip it on a warm and sunny day. Delicious, very traditional, and "very French" white wine.....
