For those who love classically styled, plush, and pleasure-bent California Cabs, I found one that is going to make your head spin. The Altruria Cabernet Sauvignon comes from both valley floor and mountain vineyards in Sonoma County, and it's made by Brit Nichols, one of California's top young winemakers.
Altruria was the name of one of California's first Utopian communes. Founded in 1894 just outside of Santa Rosa, it was composed of new settlers to California who were looking for a better way of life. I'm not sure if the commune survived, but the wine it inspired will certainly make your night better and provide you with a "Utopian drinking experience" :)
Priced to sell and brand new to the marketplace, you won't find this anywhere else in Asheville, and you won't find a better price than ours. 14 cases up for grabs, and I guarantee you'll love it!
2022 Altruria Cabernet Sauvignon -- Here's why you should buy it:
- Crafted by Britt Richards, one of the most talented young winemakers in California, you can tell that this was made by someone who knows what they're doing.
- She trained at Chappellet, Peter Michael, and with Philippe Melka, and she's just starting to get "noticed." When you taste this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 18 months in French oak, you'll understand why.
- A warm, ripe, and inviting nose of dark cherry, plum, cassis, toasty oak, and milk chocolate lead into a full, silky, and opulent palate. It's big for sure, but the tannins are rounded and soft.
- I promise you I'm not over-hyping this one when I say it drinks like a Sonoma or Napa Cab that costs $50+. I just call it like I taste it :)
- Just 2,000 cases were produced for the vintage, and while this is fantastic now, it's got 5-7 years of good drinking ahead of it.
